Weird Things Pets Do

Got any weird pet stories? For starters, my puppy rips all the stuffing including the squeaky thing out of his toys so they're now just pieces of cloth.
One of my rabbits pushed a candle holder up the wall and on to our fireplace because he didn't like that it was behind his cage. It took him 15 minutes to do it.
My puppy also growls and barks at any animal shown on TV. He will attack the TV and push buttons.

My cat has an obsession with shiny objects.. she has to bite them or attack them... And she likes to play with pennies (and only pennies).

Wow! I don't know where to start. I guess the oddest thing my cat used to do is to knit with his paws on my braille magazines. He'd ignore anything related to electronics or music, but for some reason, he'd sniff my Popular Mechanics, back away from it, run and do a belly flop in front of it. He'd then flip open the pages, and move his paws across them, purring like mad the hole time, like he knew exactly what he was doing. He knows Papa (that's me) is blind, and takes advantage. The most brasen thing he's done lately is to steel the ingredients off of pizza while I was eating it. He'd stop purring, walk quietly across the table, and just grab something. Next, he'd jumpdown and eat whatever he got. He'd repeat the process. Now, between bites, I reach across to make sure he isn't there.

Well, my grandparents, Bernese Mountain dog has some very weird phobias or fears which wouldn't frighten any other animals on this planet other than her, and her reactions're the same if she sees or hears any of these things I'll mention in a minute. If she sees or hears something she thinks is going to harm her in any way, which makes a very loud bleeping or banging noise like a fireworks display, the bleeps on Mastermind on the telly, a flash from a digital camera or a mobile phone message alert like the one on my mobile going off, the sight of a hot air balloon in the distance, clouds or even the moon or stars in the sky's enough to send her running for the living room and a hiding place behind the sofa or even behind the television, nearly knocking it off its, stand and pulling out all the plugs till the thing she's seen or heard goes away.
My birthday's on the fourth of November, the day before Bonfire night as I hope all of you know, and last year, we all had dinner round my Grandparents, house. Blairwitch, Kay, who's my best friend and myself, were both sat on the sofa in the living room while my mum and grandparents were all out in the kitchen getting drinks for everyone and getting the roast beef dinner ready for when Auntie Lou and Uncle Richard and his girlfriend, Mum's brother and sister came round. Purdie chose that moment to actually climb up behind us on the sofa. I was thrown on to the floor, but Kay, surprisingly, managed to stay on the sofa, under ten tonnes of dog clambering about on the back of the sofa. Mum heard the shrieks of laughter and exasperation and came to rescue us.

I keep telling mum and my grandparents to get her used to everyday bangs, bleeps and stuff, perhaps by playing a tape of these noises over and over, but they say that wouldn't help her, but I've seen similar things being done on these animal programmes like Pet Rescue and they've really helped other animals overcome their fears. They've even said Purdie would make a good guide dog, but because of all the things I mentioned earlier, that sort of life is out for her. I couldn't work with a dog who'd take off and find somewhere to hide if any loud noise went off or if my phone went off in my pocket. She'd be too much of a risk.

My cat, Oreo she loves to chase bugs around the house swatting at them with her paws until she eventually kills them. She also likes to stand up on the edge of my computer desk to look outside all the time. She also likes to open up the little cabinet compartment underneith my computer desk and hide in it, and she does the same with the bathroom cabinets below the sink. She's able to get in them places because the doors don't shut very well.

Sangsih is the residant bug ketcher. He takes his job very seriously and eats everything he kills, bees, wasps, hornets, ants, spiders, flies, moths. He has a protein rich diet. He also likes to shut his gullible and loving twin brother Polos up in cupboards or in the bathroom cabinet. Polos will cry pathetically until I go and rescue him, and Sangsih will sit on the stairs giving me this "What did I do? Don't look at me." look. Polos purrs like a frait train and is convinced that if he isn't carried around the house on somebody's shoulder for at least two hours cumulatively a day that he will simply expire. He also can't sleep unless he's on top of someone, be it, myself, his brother, my mother, or whatever houseguest happens to be available. They are both theives and scavengers. They will sit at the dinner table in any unoccupied chairs, and occassionally dart out a paw to snach something off of a passing plate. Sangsih loves to open the microwave, especially when his brother is passing it, as the door enivedably knocks him off of the counter. They also like to attack each other's tails and they run the meezer grand pree every night before bed.

I mentioned this elsewhere on another topic, but my cat Advent likes to ride around on my shoulders, too. When he was younger, he'd leap from the floor up. Now, he needs help, but he'll sit there and purr his heart out. If I'm sitting on the floor watchin TV, he'll sit beside me. If I'm laying on the floor, he'll lay down. My wife laughs at us when this happens.

Smokey doesn't seem interested in people food at all. When we first got him, he used to turn the waste basket over, and I assumed he was looking for food. But no, he was looking for plastic wrap of any kind. He chews on plastic, rubber bands, and thin cords.

My parents have two cats. One will play fetch. I'm serious. You know those little hair ties girls put in their hair? Well my cat will bring them to you and want you to throw it, then when you throw it, he finds it and will bring it back, this will go on and on until you or the cat gets annoyed with it. Then the other cat likes people food more then catfood.

Well Oreo also likes to sleep in the bathroom sink for some reason. Odd don't you think? She also likes to open up my pantry door and pull out all the boxes in the bottom of it if their light enough to pull out that is and hide in there. I normally keep bottled watyer and dr. Peppers (My beer is what I call it) in there.

The insects who in which normally become victims who die in this house normally are june bugs and moths. She throws a damn fit when a lizard climbs up and hangs around near the celling. She'll meow like she never meowed before. Until I catch the lizard and release it outside. Cats are very crazy creatures but that's what makes them unique and interesting to have around.

My dog Lacy is very talkative! She's half German Shepherd and half Huskie and when I say talkative, I mean she makes these noises as if she's trying to talk like a human! It's not the broken up woof woof woof or arf arf arf... it's... I can't put it into phonetics but it's the weirdest thing! One that I can put into phonetics was that her and dad were wrestling one time and she was biting on his wrists and bit too hard, so dad goes "Ow! Did you do that?!" and she made this sound like "Ruh-Ruh!" sort of like "Uh-Uh!" or "Not me!" with the exact same sarcastic human inflections! She also likes to tear up stuffed toys and squeaky toys until they're just bits and pieces. Oh, and she has a fascination with shoes! She ate up poor dad's dress shoes and he had to wear sandals to my aunt's funeral! She also ate up my good walking around the house shoes with the Dr. Scholl's insoles and so now I either wear slippers, socks, or sandals when walking around the house. She'll sit on the couch and watch TV, meaning she actually will pay attention to what's visually going on with the TV and what's on the screen. Speaking of screens, I had a picture of Lacy as my desktop picture one time and I had to go in another room to get something, so I left my computer chair. Next thing I know, Mom's laughing and Lacy's sitting on my computer chair talking to her wallpaper image! Oh yeah, that's one, she absolutely loves sitting up in chairs, whether it's the two chairs in the kitchen or my computer chair or the front seat of the car. She also got up on one of the outside chairs at my sister's house when we took her over there! One last thing in this long ramble to mention, she snores loudly after she's been in a really deep sleep for awhile!

LOL, Love the image of the dog sitting in a chair looking at your computer.

One of my former cats used to like to leave my various clothing items around the house. It broke me of the habit of not putting my clothes away right away after taking them out of the laundry. I used to leave my laundry basket in my room until I felt like putting things away. But I came home one day and had company with me, and the first thing they saw was a couple pairs of my panties in the middle of the living room floor, and some T shirts and othe rlightweight clothing items spread around.

With Lacy being half Huskie, she's terrible on the leash! If she wants to go somewhere you're not taking her, she'll dig her claws into the ground and start pulling you with all her weight as if you were a sled! She loves to stick her head out the car window too like all dogs do, unless we're going on the freeway, then she stands on top of the front armrests and gets pets from us while she looks out the front window. Oh, I just remembered another weird thing she did one time. I take paratransit to work and she always knows the white buses or vans and knows that they're coming to drive me away and bring me back from work. So, one time, Mom and Dad brought her when they picked me up from work instead and paratransit was dropping someone else off while I was walking her around the parking lot. She started leading me to the paratransit bus thinking that I needed to get on it!

When our retriever was alive, she once helped herself to half a raspberry pavlova off my grandparents, dining room table, and just the other night, their own dog, Purdie freaked out when she heard the thunderstorm that was happening outside, she charged in to their shower room and literally climbed up the wall. Is, not tiles as such, it's little glass windows/mirrors and my grandparents errected this frame with like little window panes going from about chest hight to the ceiling, so Purdie decided to climb on top of the radiator, then on up the wall using this framework like a ladder. Fortunately, its, all still attached to the wall. She's a bit of a big dog to go wall-climbing like that, really! Lollol.

pets can get into all kinds of unusual places when frightened. Dogs and cats will get into tight situations in places that they'd never usually even contemplate going near, wall cavities chimneys and and loft spaces are common places to find cats and other small things like birds, raccoons, etc etc.

My great nan's West Highland Terriers bark at animals that are moving or making noise on TV and if there is shouting on there, they will bark and go crazy because they think someone is getting hurt. Our parot's favorite food is peanuts which he cracks the shell of and then eats the nuts and green beans which he loves to eat. Our puppy jumps at me if I come in the kitchen and he's just come in from outside.

Is it true that raisins, grapes and chocolate are all poisonous to dogs? Apparently if a competition horse or pony is given chocolate or a chocolate based treat, they are disqualified because cocoa is a banned substance (illegal).

Post 25 by The Elemental Dragon (queen of dragons) on Saturday, 28-Apr-2007 12:32:05

never heard of that but I've given my dog grapes and she's fine. chocolate is a big nono and yes she will even eat letus and cumbers.

My dog held a grudge against my mom for a whole day. My mother yelled at her and when my mom went to pet her she looked at my mom as if to say F you!!

when i was a kid we had a cat named fluff. hey dumb name but i was six when we got her. whenever i would read a braille book, she'd come over and curl up in the middle of the page. Now, our dog Jade will whack my hands off the page with her paws if I am reading and she feels pats are owed to her.

I have 3 gerbils, but one of them is pretty unusual. He's hyperactive and will attack anything he can. I've caught him hanging from the wire mesh that covers the cage by his teeth before, just swinging there lazily while the other 2 gerbils watched. lol. He also has a habbit of hanging from the water bottle suspended from the top of the cage and will insist on chewing on it is he thinks he deserves some attention. When He's out of the cage, he will not sit still, and has escaped a number of times when he's just been to crazy to hold.

Post 29 by Salem (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 12-May-2007 19:11:53

We've had some pretty weird animals. When I was growing up we had two hamsters named Happy and Tiny, don't ask. I don't know how they got those names. Well Tiny only had three feet when we got her, and one day she bit one of Happy's paws off. I guess she wanted them to match. My cat Drizzle when he was alive took down too Christmas trees and batted ornaments all over the house. He also liked to curl up in the sink and drink out of the kitchen faucet. He used to come up to me when I was eating pizza and take bites out of the crust and run off. He'd chase the braille writer whenever I'd be brailling. And I don't even know where to begin when it comes to my cat Salem. I really think he's missing most of his brain cells. I came home from work one day and found the antenna on my radio full of teeth marks. He also chewed up my cell phone antenna. My other cat Sabrina will sit in the window and watch birds and squirrels and I'll hear this thud as she tries to leap through the window to get them. She does this with snowflakes too when it snows.

My cat likes to play with the little plastic things off the gallons of milk. She likes to drink water out of the tub and drinks water out of my dog's bowl instead of hers. She also likes to steal food off my plate. She likes empty boxes and cabinets. Of course cats like high places and her two favorite spots are on the highest shelf of my desk and on top of the fridge. I used to have a cat that liked to play fetch.
If I'm sitting on the floor, my guide dog likes to sit on my lap. He hardly ever barks unless you make faces at him.

i love this topic. On Saturday, my new kitty Tanga took my entire pork chop and made off with it. I was not pleased. It was all covered with spices and teriyaki sauce and I wanted it.
Chased him down and grabbed it too.

My cat BISK loves the little things that come off the oj cartons. i guess they are seals. she will chase these for hours.

for those of you whose pets like to interact with animals on tv, did youknow that you can buy dvds with cats and dogs on them. When you are out of the house you can stick these in and the animal has entertainment.

Post 40 by kithri (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Monday, 17-Aug-2009 22:34:11

To the one with the mountain dog that's frightened of loud stuff, yes, it's a good idea to try to get her slowly accustomed to noises or something outside might scare her and she could run away.

I have a yellow lab that will steal raw vegetables right off the plants in the garden, beans, pea pods, tomatoes, strawberries and anything else.
I also have one cat that will sleep curled up in the sink, no idea why and if you turn water on him to make him move, he doesn't until he's thourghly wet.
I have a cat that will chase bugs, eat people food stuff with frosting on it or breads or anything that has milk or cream in it.
My cat also loves to knead on anything that's lying around with braille on it.
My cat will crawl under a rug until he's right in the middle and no part of him shows and you never know he's there until the rug moves as you step on it.
My cat will walk on a leash.
I have two rats that will his and attack the cats if they come to close to the cage or even if the rats are out and the cats come up to them because they're interested in the rat tails.
He recently died, but my lilac-crowned amazon used to literally walk on the floor and chase the cats out of the room he was in and if they didn't move fast enough he would peck at them and make a sort of hissing noise. My amazon didn't like to fly, he prefered walking on the floor.
Male puppies and sometimes male cats like to eat underware. This can be annoying as you have to keep it hidden or alway buy new underware.
I had two foster kittens earlier this year that didn't eat clothes, but liked to drag off socks and roll on them, bury them, flip them in the air as if they were some kind of toy. I still haven't found what they did with two of them.
My Jendai Conure likes to hang from her cage by only her beak and she loves to be upsidedown.
My pop bellied pig knows how to open the patio screen door to go out and she will do tricks as long as food is involved and she wears a harness and leash, but they can be stuborn when walking because they want to go where they want.
I have chinchillas, rabbits, and guinea pigs, but they don't really do much that's weird. My guinea pig does love baths.
My persian also loves to get a bath, which is kind of strange for a cat unless they are show cats. He could be, but that's too much money, but he likes it anyway.
We had a wild goldfinch in a cage because he couldn't fly, wing not broken, but damaged somehow. He still sang and did everything he was supposed. It didn't seem to bother him that he was in a cage. When we put his cage outside in the spring and summer the wild finches would come right down and sit on the cage and sing to him, even females. It was pretty cool.

My brother's cat used to attack video game characters on the TV screen. When she was a kitten back in 1998 my brother and I were playing an old Nintendo Game called StarTropics, well the second chapter in that two-part series. My brother's cat, Wedge, would come into the room with us and watch. I remember several times when the game's main character, Mike, would walk across the screen in an empty room, such as when my brother was trying to figure out a difficult puzzle, Wedge would get up on her hind feet and bat at Mike with her front ones as he walked across the TV screen.

That same dog I talked about earlier, he loves bini-babies. Well, he loves any kind of stuffed animal, but especially bini-babies.
My sister (when she was little) was obsessed with the collection, and so she made my mom buy her the whole thing. At one point, we could fill up a whole box with all the stuffed animals she had, and she didn't want them anymore, we put the box in my closett.
Next thing we know, my dog has all the stuffed-animals in my brother's room (where he stays); apparently, he'd dragged them all, one by one, to his doggy-bed.
